GHOST OF THE BAY

The Story: A fortituous moment that almost didn't happen...the owner (by the name of Sandal) of this handmade boat (the Monastery) saw me photographing the bay in his general direction and made sure to "hide" in the shadow of the boat until it looked like I wasn't paying attention. After a few minutes of making sure that I wasn't interested (of course I still was...just waiting with my remote release in my hand and looking the other direction) he started walking toward the shoreline. The light had gotten low enough that the exposure was 1/2 a second long at this point, causing him to turn into a ghost as he walked with his cane through the scene. About a year after I captured this shot he passed away, and this image was used to memorialize him in the local paper as he'd lived on this boat in the bay for nearly 25 years.
